Corporate Indifference
Humor me for a moment, I can’t find the right way to put this.
Corporations first seek to hire “experienced,” and “qualified” individuals, for the most part.
This, barring the fact that sometimes people are pegged for a certain position.
But, we can mostly agree that Corporations, for the most part, are not actually selecting for “competence” (in the vein of experience or qualifications), so much as “stock” — as in “stock market” — looks good on paper.
Push come to shove, corporations don’t actually care about their employees, while implying that employees should care about the corporation and shareholders.
Let’s put this in perspective: An employee spots a problem which might cause loss of profits. But because this runs abreast issues with an individual, typically somewhere in mid-to-upper management, instead of the issue being handled profitably, the issue is handled according to corporate hierarchy. (Who can cover for who and not let it be known that some product, individual or division is only protecting or covering his or her own ass — nothing related to actually caring about the corporation or it’s shareholders — just individual self-interested pursuits.)
Thereafter, this employee is now a “problem employee,” despite best efforts or intents, to be reported (or complained about) to HR.
HR is always overworked and understaffed and indifferent and has “legalities,” before “policies,” and “politics,” and so HR attempts to handle the situation dispassionately, or with utter indifference. (Forget the corporation, it’s shareholders, and profits: Everything is a liability, except profitability, so we side with politics and policies and legalities.)
Whatever takes shape — it doesn’t matter, no one cares, it’s just life, it’s not personal, it’s just business.
So, if, in the end, it doesn’t matter, and nobody cares, and everybody is indifferent except for shutting off the flow with: “I don’t care…”
Explain to me where this started…
Explain to me why corporations ask for or want or seek to hire qualified or experienced individuals who should care about the company, when the company doesn’t actually care about it’s employees?
Why is “turnabout” not fair play?
Why does it matter?
Since, ultimately, it doesn’t matter to those who say you should care and it matters — why do these people have such a major problem with anyone else who could care less and only serve themselves (fuck the corporation, the shareholders, and other employees — all that matters in corporate environments are individual interest).
I’m not trying to be cynical or sarcastic with this.
It’s a valid question.
One minute people tell you that you say you should care and do your best. The next minute, after you’ve done this, they’ll turn an indifferent and blind eye, if not pat you on the back one minute, and slap you in the face the next.
Why should people care about shareholders, corporations, and their profits?
These companies don’t care about their employees. And it becomes obvious from the depths of indifference from which people approach things.
Just a random, rambling thought in the moment.
Explain to me, in rational terms, why people should give a shit about someone or something who doesn’t give a shit or care about them???
(Above and beyond the basics of: Don’t bite the hand that feeds. How much abuse and mistreatment is “acceptable,” and why shouldn’t this same abuse and mistreatment be visited upon those holding the reigns or leash? Seriously, taking that same depth-of-indifference attitude: It doesn’t really matter, right? Nobody really cares, right?)
Explain it to me like I’m 5 years old.
Better yet, go and try and explain it to a 5-year-old!
