Week of 10/28–11/3

1.What did you do this past week?

This past week I worked a lot of Project 4 for this class and my group actually got sone with it. All of our sorting and filtering in done and the site-wide search is also complete. I was also able to host the backend over https pretty easily so that is working too. All in all, it was a very productive week, with little to no problems.

2.What’s in your way?

My iOS group has the Beat release due next Thursday so I will be more concentrated on that this week than anything else. I’m glad we were able to get most of Project 4 done this week so that I will have the time to dedicate to my other groups.

3.What will you do next week?

Next week I will focus mainly on getting my app done for Beta, as there is still much to do. I will also be working on some of the smaller things with Project 4 like testing the deployment and working on the technical report. As always I will keep reviewing the notes and doing well on the daily quizzes for this class in order to not have to stress so much about the final exam.

4.What was your experience of SQL?

I actually really enjoyed learning about SQL in a formal way instead of the compilation of google searches that made up my knowledge from the past. I think its a very simple language to understand the basics of, but also one that can get very complex if you want to do specific queries and whatnot. I really enjoy the class exercises as they really work to drive the point home. I think I can now say I truly do know about SQL, not like before.

5.What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip of the week is to start organizing your project code early on as it is a very big hassle to change everything and make it look pretty. My group had everything in one file and we have slowly started to divide the codebase up, but it takes a while and a lot of breaks and bugs will happen. I suggest doing the clean up of the main files together since you don't want everyone messing with the same files over git, since we had that happen and had many merges to fix before the code would compile, basically having to undo all our refactoring.
