Blackboard Tetris for brainstorming
Analogue is cool sometimes
Assignment:
Design and build huge writable, brainstorming surfaces in the SOPRESO office.
Criteria 1:
Cheap as possible.
Criteria 2:
Walls can not be painted over.
Decision 1
- based on Criteria 1
Buying huge whiteboards is not an option.
It looks shit anyway, we don’t want to work in a language school, right?
Idea 1
- based on Decision 1
Let’s use blackboard paint! Its cool, sexy and trendy these days.
Pros:
- Cheap
- Trendy
- I can make it by myself
Cons:
- Not magnetic
- Not as easy to wipe as the whiteboard
> it is not great for brainstorming where it is important to record everything quickly, and to move things around to find its perfect place in the mind map
Idea 2
-based on cons and Criteria 2
Lets buy small/different-sized boards and create a system to move them around even from one room to another.
So the design is:
I created a grid of 35/30 cm. The biggest piece is 3 by 3 (for larger issues), the smallest is 1 by 1 unit (for quotes, side notes etc.)
Using these “tetrisboards” thousand of variations are possible.
We needed some literature, some driving concept, something that makes every design-geek (including me) shout:
“What a conceptual piece!”
So I recycled my earlier idea, the so-called-motto of SOPRESO:
Great, it s a masterpiece! Done!
Let’s see if it works
I had the 3 mm MDF boards cut in the wood shop. Painted with blackboard paint. 2 layers. Drilled the holes of 10mm. Hammered 100 nails in the wall (poor neighbors) and we are ready, its in action!
I made more so we have a few boards in the other two office spaces, this we can walk around with our ideas:)
Total costs:100€ , 130$
Sorry for the ugly pics.
