Rob, well said. As you eloquently stated, charitable giving is evolving, and it is evolving for the better. You cited some great examples of other game changing models like Airbnb, Uber, etc as positive changes, but let me add one more. Social enterprise investing is gaining significant momentum in the investor community and now is a major source of funding of for-profit social enterprises that have a substantial positive social impact and need to reach scale to have an even greater social impact. Social enterprise investors like Omidyar Networks, Acumen, Grey Ghost, etc “do well and do good” by providing the next stage of funding after crowdsource funding, thus enabling a social enterprise is able to scale its operations and then be self sustaining or attract more traditional venture capital investors. I saw this first hand at dlight, a for-profit social enterprise with a mission to help lift people out of poverty by providing solar lanterns as a source of clean, economical light and energy and a replacement for polluting and expensive kerosene lanterns. Evolution usually is for the better — keep up the good work.
