Design Activities Log
For this week’s entry I am going to talk about the game Rust. Rust is a survival video game that was developed by Facepunch Studios in February 2018. In Rust, players wake up on what seems to be a vacant planet that is only inhabited by nature and wildlife but players soon find out that they are not alone. There are other players running around trying their best to stay alive. Players’ objectives are to survive for as long as possible while also managing their hunger and thirst.
Players have to quickly farm for shelter and start on their base or they risk being killed by other players. Once a player has a stable base built they can start going out and farming for materials that will be put towards building weapons, ammunition, and armor. Players need to be able to defend their base from other players who might try to raid them and steal their materials. Players must be careful when going out to get materials because aside from the fact that other people want to kill you, once in a while a helicopter will fly around the map and fire rockets at players who are heavily armed/armored. From my experience it is best to not do any farming or building alone. Find yourself a clan or another person to play with.
I’ve seen clans on Rust that are made of 20 to 30 people and it’s truly terrifying. For some reason my clan and I are always unlucky and accidentally end up building a base near a large clan so we are always one of the first people on the map to get raided. If you are part of a clan that is only made up of a few people it is best to find some land that is isolated and in an area with plenty of resources so that you do not have to travel far from the base.
As I was playing Rust this week I was able to successfully build a base and gather plenty of materials. I have not been raided yet and my clan and I are still working on the base. There have been a few clans come by to try and raid us but we were able to stand our ground.
