As a programming beginner, it’s important to remain grounded. What prompted the choice to get into this field? What are your goals? What do you hope to get out of it?
While I’ve been self-studying off and on for about a year, I decided to take the plunge and join a bootcamp. This investment was worth it because it holds you accountable, provides a personal mentor and countless resources to accompany the structured curriculum. This is important because it not only keeps you focused and on track, but hopefully maintains and rejuvenates your enthusiasm and commitment to learning this new craft.
The biggest obstacle I anticipate is time management. As someone with a demanding full-time job and an addiction to travel, Netflix, and exercise, it’s very difficult to adjust the routine in an already stretched 16+ hour day. However, adding programming to that list of addictions is a must. Over time, the extra hours and minutes will materialize and find their way into my day. It will only get easier the more I absorb and learn. Becoming confident in my knowledge and skills will be essential for success and fuel my thirst for more. It’s a long journey ahead, but one with a blue sky and a silver lining.
As with all new things, being a novice is only temporary.
