I like to try an remain ‘in the moment’ with the team I am working with, and so can find note-taking can possibly distract me or cause me to miss a point. For that reason, I have ended up with a similar approach to yours. Looking for an overall theme and reflecting afterward because I know the details are likely to change when thought through.

I have tried asking another designer or outsider to take notes for me, a little like you might do in a research interview. This keeps me in the moment and has the added benefit that nothing gets missed, and that my own biases haven’t ignored anything. If I have the luxury of an extra pair of hands then this works well. But it is a luxury.
