“ We in the UX and Product Design community have co-opted this term, stripped it of it’s meaning and use it arbitrarily as some sort of synonym for… working quickly? That’s asinine.” Yes, it is but have you considered why it was done? How this came about and gained so much traction? It’s because we work in an environment where management, while advocating the myth of meritocracy, actually promotes, hands out raises, retains and hires people based on their showmanship. Certain phrases and acronyms don’t just convey ideas but they impart the speaker w attention, the kind of attention that the target audience, managers and executives, don’t necessarily think about but process emotionally. This is where impressing w stuff takes a back seat to dazzling w fluff and where phrases like “rapid prototyping” come to life even if they are as helpless and out of place as cheetahs in a zoo enclosure.
What the hell is “Rapid Prototyping”?
