Framing the journey from chattel slavery to the current condition of Blacks in America as “race relations” is why we can’t have real discussions about this issue and how we haven’t actually traveled so far, despite the Obama presence in the White House. Our common language for these issues and our unwillingness to use tough but accurate terms in favor of dishwater dull ideas like “race relations” are why this needed to be fact checked rather than something every American understood because of history lessons taught from the earliest days of primary school.
