Ducati is an Italian motorcycle manufacturing firm with its headquarters in Bologna, Italy (pronunciation in Italian: [dukati]). The German parent firm of the business, Audi, which is directly controlled by the Volkswagen Group, the Italian automaker Lamborghini.

HISTORY

Antonio Cavalieri Ducati and his three sons, Adriano, Marcello, and Bruno, founded Società Scientifica Radiobrevetti Ducati in Bologna in 1926 to produce vacuum tubes, condensers, and other radio components. They had achieved enough success by 1935 to make it possible to build a new facility in Borgo Panigale neighbourhood.

Despite the fact that the Allies regularly bombarded the Ducati factory, production continued during World War II. On October 12, 1944, as part of the United States Army Air Forces’ Operation Pancake, which involved over 700 aircraft flying from airfields in the Province of Foggia.about 40 Consolidated B-24 Liberators finally destroyed it

Ducati management

Ducati management chose to react as the market started moving towards larger motorcycles. They made a statement during an early-1952 Milan exhibition by debuting their 65TS cycle and Cruiser (a four-stroke motor scooter). Even though it was hailed as the most intriguing new machine at the 1952 exhibition, the Cruiser was not a big hit; only a few thousand were produced over the course of the model’s final two years of manufacturing. In recognition of the company’s divergent motorcycle and electronics product lines, management divided the business into two distinct businesses in 1953. Ducati Meccanica SpA and Ducati Elettronica. Ducati Meccanica SpA was led by Dr. Giuseppe Montano, and with government funding, the factory in Borgo Panigale was modernised. Production at Ducati Meccanica SpA had climbed to 120 bikes per day by 1954.

Partnership

The Audi division of the Volkswagen Group announced its plan to purchase Ducati for €860 million in April 2012. Ferdinand Pich, the chairman of Volkswagen and a motorbike enthusiast, had long desired Ducati and lamented passing on the chance to purchase the business from the Italian government in 1984. Analysts questioned whether a small motorbike manufacturer could have a significant impact on a business the size of Volkswagen, saying the acquisition had “a trophy feel to it” and was motivated more by VW’s love of brand names than by business or financial considerations. Under VW ownership, the Italian luxury automobile manufacturer Lamborghini gained strength.[8][9] On July 19, 2012, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A., a division of AUDI AG, paid €747 million for all of the shares of Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A.
