Any help on the local level is surely appreciated! Currently in San Jose, CA, we are trying to put an initiative on the ballot to modernize a gross-receipts business tax, to help fix our roads.
San Jose is the richest city in the country — in the WORLD — yet we are ranked 3rd in worst road conditions in the nation! This GRT will get multi-million and billion-dollar corporations doing business in our city — companies such as Adobe and Cisco — to pay their fair share of taxes. This money will go into a general fund that will go towards certain public works projects (like fixing the plethora of potholes in our city), go towards re-hiring the 300+ police officers we’ve cut back on since 2008, go towards giving local residents living-wage jobs, and will alleviate the homelessness crisis by offering more housing (which is yet ANOTHER state of emergency that San Jose is under).
