Nothing I Say Will Satisfy Those Who Identify As Feminists

But that’s ok. Everyone has a right to their own opinion.

By virtue of saying you’re a feminist, you’re only fighting for women’s rights. Not for equality. So right there, you’re saying that you don’t really care about men, about African Americans, about Mexicans (or any other race) or disabled people or even overweight people, all you care about is women.

So if that’s the case, and you want equality, does that mean we can take off the quotas for women in the workplace and say that only the people that are truly the most qualified should be hired and if it just so happens to be a woman they should be hired?

Because that’s EQUALITY.

But what you’re saying is, oh but no, there’s not enough women in the workplace, so we have to have a quota that says we have to have a certain number of women.

That’s special treatment.

Feminists don’t care how much a disabled person makes unless it’s a woman. You don’t care if there’s a wage difference between black people and white people. You only care if women make as much as men.

What I’m saying is, equality means take the race, gender, and everything else out of it and just look at the person’s experience and the job.

I agree, women in general are getting paid less than men as a whole.

I believe whoever has the most experience, regardless of race or gender, etc., should get the job and they should make the same amount of money as everyone else with the same job and experience.

But, if experience is lacking WOMEN SHOULD MAKE LESS THAN THEIR MALE COUNTERPART in that position.

That’s equality.

Still not sure? Let’s take a closer look.

The following is a definition of equality according to Dictonary.com:

equality
1. the state of quality of being equal; correspondence in quality, degree, value, rank or ablility.
2. uniform character

There’s another section in Dictionary.com called LEARNERS where “equality” is explained in more detail to help people further understand the concept.

It states:

equality
uncount noun
Equality is the same status, rights, and responsibilities for all the members of a society, group, or family. …equality of the sexes.

The above is a direct quote. I did NOT add the words, “equality of the sexes”.

Here’s the thing.

Nothing will change as long as we keep arguing about what Feminism means. We spend so much time arguing over nonsense such as which roles define us and which one is better.

NO ONE IS RIGHT OR WRONG AND NO ONE IS BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE.

Instead of wasting so much time arguing, why not spend time doing something productive?

Some women think being a stay-at-home mom is better than being a working mom. Some think being a working mom is better than being a stay-at-home mom. There are women who work who want to stay home. Then, there are others who stay home, despite their desire to work, because their husbands make more money than the woman would if she worked.

Every woman’s situation is different.

I support each and every one of you in your decision.

You are the only one who knows what is best for you, your family, and your individual situation.

Unless and until we stop focusing on ourselves and on our own situations and pay attention to what’s happening in our economy and culture as it relates to women in general, women’s rights legislation and healthcare options for us and our children will stay the same.

Nothing will change until we see each other as sisters rather than enemies.

Some of you read my writing and take it personally.

If you are one of them, that is your decision. You are misinterpreting my words and wasting energy.

The truth of the matter is, no matter how I respond there are those who would rather attack, argue, and point fingers rather than agree.

My name and reputation on Medium has already been ruined in several popular stories. Never in my life (before Medium) have I been called sexist, racist, or any other of the horrible words used to describe me recently.

But hey, that’s ok!

After all, every single one of us has a right to our own opinion.

I should know.

I served our country to help us keep that right.
