How Fiveable can help you ace AP® Classes
Nearly 3 million students took at least one Advanced Placement® exam in 2018 and this number has increased by 40% in the last decade. AP® exams have essentially become a pre-requisite for college applications because so many students are stacking their transcripts.
Of course, the emphasis on standardized tests has sparked debates, but at Fiveable, we think AP® classes are absolutely worth it and we’ve created a whole suite of resources to help you keep your grades up and pass your exams.
But first, let me take a minute to show you why AP® classes are worth it.
- Harder classes make you a better student
This is easily the number one reason you should take AP® classes. It’s not about the content you learn in the class, it’s about the skills. Sure, it’s nice to know an advanced level of history or math or science, but if you have the skills to read, write, and think at the highest levels, then you can learn anything. The hardest part about college is not the content you learn, it’s whether or not you have the skills to keep up. Start working on those skills in high school and you will have a huge advantage later. - AP® classes look great on college applications
It’s no secret that having AP® classes on your transcript will make you stand out to colleges. It shows that you take on academic challenges when they are available. Second, they are usually weighted more heavily on your GPA, so if you do well in the class, you get a boost. - College credit saves you money
The experience of taking an AP® class is far more important then your exam score, but that’s a huge plus too if you can pass. For every AP® exam that you pass with a 3 or higher, you have the chance to earn college credit that can equate to upwards of $4,000 per exam. The cost of college is rising, with no end in sight, and the levels of student debt are crippling. If you can pass enough AP®s to cover your Freshmen year, you can save tens of thousands of dollars.

Fiveable’s mission is for all students to have the opportunity and skills to get a five on any AP® exam.
For you to have the opportunity to get a five, you need resources and support. Some students have those things through their teachers, schools, families, or are just really good at Googling. But your future shouldn’t depend on where you go to school, what your family’s experience is, or whether you can navigate these systems on your own. If taking AP® exams is so worth it, then we need to start leveling the playing field. That’s where Fiveable comes in.
Fiveable was founded in April of 2018 because a few students asked me to live-stream reviews for AP® US History. They were feeling stressed about the exam and wanted more support then their teacher could offer. So many AP® teachers offer review sessions before or after school, but teachers are already overworked and this group of students just wanted more.

From there, Fiveable exploded and over 500 students across 40+ states studied for both AP® US History and AP® World History leading up to the 2018 exams. Once the scores came out, we learned that 94% of those students passed their exams and earned college credit.
Now, Fiveable is growing and we’re so excited to announce all of the ways you can use our platform & connect with our community in order to ace your classes and pass your exams.

Because we want AP® support to be accessible, we host free communities and lots of free resources that are helpful. We also have created the most affordable plans available anywhere for live tutoring. Seriously, they are 20x cheaper then any other live supports out there.
