This post is about the trio i.e. Bookmarks, Selection and Buttons in Power BI.

In this post, I would like to, first of all, share the applications of Bookmark, Selection, and Button in Power BI.
Then, by example, I would share how to use this trio in Power BI.

Applications and Features:

The trio i.e. Bookmark, Selection, and Button help us to put more than one visual on a single page of the report.

  • It makes our report more interactive and informative.
It helps us to manipulate the report according to the usage of what we want to show to the end user as bookmarks are responsible for the current state of the report page.
  • Additionally, it may come to our mind whether using the bookmarks will affect the performance of the report, well it is not. No. of Bookmarks used in the report doesn’t affect the performance of the report. But, for sure buttons, we use affect the performance of the report as it is a visual element.

Now, via an example, I would like to explain how to use this trio in Power BI.
Here, first of all, with the help of visuals or elements we have in Power BI, I used it to create two types of bookmarks to show two different visuals as shown below in the following report:

Now, as in the above visual we used one of the bookmarks i.e. “Showing Senior Sales Performance”. It helps us to show the three visuals as marked above in the picture.

Next, we used “Showing Junior Sales Performance”, it helps us to show the three visuals marked as shown above.
Here, for creating each of the bookmarks and adding it to the report page, I selected the elements which we want to show and hide the rest which wasn’t required for the visual i.e. for Senior Sales Manager Performance and Junior Sales Manager Performance respectively.

And using toggle button as mentioned below, I merged them to each of the bookmarks as shown below:

In this way, this trio makes our report interactive and insightful in Power BI according to our usage.
