At the age of 83, Burt Young, the well-known actor best known for playing Paulie Pennino in the classic Rocky picture series, passed away.

No cause of death was stated when his daughter Anne Morea Steingieser announced his death on October 8.

Although Young had a successful career acting in TV shows like The Sopranos and films like Chinatown and Once Upon a Time in America, he will always be remembered for his role as Sylvester Stallone’s charming and rough brother-in-law, Paulie, in the Rocky films.

Paulie’s character, a bitter meat packer in Philadelphia, captured spectators’ attention in the 1976 original movie with his unadulterated sincerity. Young gave his parts more depth by being able to represent middle-aged people regardless of his own age.

The Rocky film series attained incredible achievement, making Stallone a household name and solidifying Young’s legacy in film history.
