Why Font Changes Makes You Miss Deliverables

Traditional, if you were working on a project, there is a sense of priority to make a particular task more important than others. With the introduction of agile practices in projects, I think the concept of priority has fallen out of favor because it is just an excuse for not pushing back or poor planning on the team.

I would love to share with everyone a real story with the hopes of improving your agile practices and team accountability.

A “priority” request was received by the team that was labeled as leaving a product inoperable. A team of 6 individuals jumps into a conference call to address the issues and make everything correct for the client. After talking for about 45 minutes, the request was translated that font color of needs to change.

You might expect that could wait for other important deliverables that were promised. You are mistaken dear reader, the word of “priority” was thrown into the mix, and it caused the defined deliverables to be missed.

This practice is just a sad excuse to not hold anyone accountable and a blanket reason to justify work not to be delivered on time.

What do you think? Is there the concept of priority in agile practice or is it just an excuse to not deliver?

Note: I am not the person in charge of the implementation of agile in this company.
