The First Hall Of Fame Money Maker: Floyd Mayweather Jr

Boxing is a sport that has made heroes and legends from brothers hustling on the streets, and from men doing time in the big house. It is a sport that occasionally needs the bad boys to stand up and sing boxing anthems in the ring. Pugilism is a disciple that many bookmakers in Las Vegas loved, but for years have been speculating about the discipline’s survival.

On August 26th, 2017, in a boxing ring, Floyd Mayweather aka “Money” or “TBE”, one legendary figure will face Conor McGregor, an ‘F class’ fighter for two good reasons:

1. Money

Floyd Mayweather Jr named himself “Money”. Tracking his money record, Mayweather has already accumulated over $650M over his 49–0 fights, continuing to maintain his undoubtable ‘bankable’ superhero status in the combat industry — more than any other athlete has done before.

Fighting Conor McGregor at 40 years old, Mayweather is presumed to make an estimated $350 million in just 36 minutes or less. I am way younger than Floyd Mayweather Jr and I will probably fight ten African lions if you give me that paycheck — I am joking — though I am from Africa, I ain’t no Tarzan.

Despite mind his age, it’s hard to refuse that type of paycheck. For sure, Mayweather is the epitome of experience paying off. I am sure this type of money will have Mayweather Jr not just be throned as the First Hall of Fame Money Maker, but will also add him to the Guinness World Record for many decades. Yes! Mayweather will be the first, and maybe the only athlete until hell freezes over, to get that type of paycheck in one day and at the age of 40.

I guess the acquisition of that amount of money is motivation enough for Mayweather Jr. Perhaps he has to pay those unpaid taxes, or maybe to continue accumulating wealth or maximizing his portfolio of investments. It could be that for Floyd Mayweather Jr the pursuit of money is a way for him to keep himself in the spotlight. I have heard that some celebrities can’t live without the camera’s flashes.

2. Timing

As scripture states, God mastered everything we use giving us special gifts for each of us to use. For Mayweather Jr, God gave him the gift to master the phrase: “timing is everything”.

Contrary to many athletes that wait to be free agents to sign max deal contracts, or wait to be traded into a greater market in an attempt to get exposed to other companies for even bigger endorsement deals, Mayweather doesn’t go through that hassle. He doesn’t belong to any athlete’s basket. He doesn’t use others to negotiate his contracts or discuss the destiny of his money. For years, Mayweather did Mayweather.

Mayweather is simply a genius in terms of making deals that are record blowing usually by choosing the right time (just go ask Oscar De La Hoya, Canelo Álvarez or Manny Pacquiao).

In fact, timing plays a pivotal role in the way businessmen invest their money and become rich. Why did Warren Buffett make so much money on the stock market? Part of the answer is timing. On the stock market, the first and only rule is to buy low and sell high — no matter the risk of cost in volume. Buffet did that all his life, which is the reason why he is one of the richest men in the world. But when does one know when the price is low enough to purchase? And how do you know when the stock reaches its peak enabling an investor to sell at a higher rate? The answer lies in looking at different elements and parameters. However, just like Mayweather’s legendary status in the ring, it’s all in the timing. Timing can make your net worth increase exponentially in just a fraction of second.

Mayweather is the master of making money at the right moment. His expertise compares (and, on some days, overturns) what Wall Street bankers have never been able to figure out — despite working overtime (think 70–100 hours per week) as they cross their fingers on the point of each algorithm.

By choosing to fight on August 26th, Mayweather has demonstrated his expertise in calculating the minutes it will take him to win. How does that happen? At first, he built the hype of an imaginary fight. Then waited, and waited, seeing the hype grow and grow. He then weighed and analyzed the moves that McGregor and his entourage would make. Looking at some money options, he decided to make a comeback after two years of retirement, knowing that his opponent would bring him one of the easiest cash options someone can make on PPV.

Conor McGregor is a superstar and brings the excitement of the MMA world. Like Mayweather, he has a big mouth and has been able to back up his mouth in the octagon. I am sorry McGregor, but you have been used by Mayweather. He used you to write the money legacy behind his history name. And that’s not all… He will also use you in the boxing ring to show you that boxing is not MMA, and that he is not an ordinary boxer. As such, I predict that Mayweather will give Conor McGregor a punishment like no one else. Afterwards, he will retire with a fortune of over $350 million in his pocket. Now that’s what I call great timing and easy money.

Both the Mayweather camp and McGregor’s camp have successfully promoted the fight thanks to news coverage and social media ridicule. They put all their artilleries in place to lure the common combat sports fan to what is billed as the fight of the century, the fight that everyone need to see. But not so fast…behind the noise, concealed behind closed doors, it is all about one thing: money. Money that Mayweather, McGregor, White’s MMA, and ShowTime expect to make from the viewers in their contribution rates for the highly anticipated televised action of the century.

Wishing you the best good luck if you spent your money on the PPV match happening on August 26th.
