Adventures in Coding III

Well, here we are again, at it! The ol’ learning process. MM MM MM. Just like spaghettios, always a good comeback sauce in the tummy. So. Last time, we hacked up some terrible spaghetti(c)o(de)s SEE WHAT I DID THERE? and it was just …terrible. Today we journey forth once more into the land of layouts!

Playing around with floats vs. flex is fun. I have to say, flex just seems so much more FLEXible to work with. What fun! Floats are rigid and conservative, like your dad. But you know who flex is? An ally in the good fight! Liberal and loving it, the good life in San Fran. Just like we always wanted. So here’s the code for today’s try:

nyan cat says KEEP GOING TIGER! YOU GOT THIS!

I removed some of the <br class=”clearfix” /> tags from the html, since I am working with flex (yesterday and today). Something to note about the clearfix tags: if you are attempting to use flex, and you try to do a space-between attribute, and you still have a clearfix class in your html sheet, you’ll get a wonky block of extra space on the right side which will make you headdesk a few times before you finally figure out what’s REALLY going down with mom lately. Make sure to remove those if you’re going to do flex instead of float. Anywho, on to the css:

so shiny and clean

This was done with a little (who are we kidding, ALL OF THE) helps from Stephen Lovell, so I’m going to have to wipe and start over on my own to make sure I have the concepts down.

I’ll be giving this another go tonight. I discovered the magic of http://codepen.io/ today, and let’s just say some several important minutes of my life were gone to the winds upon that noble site.

Until next time!
