A precision conversation program focused on getting farmers to engage in best management practices that concentrate on profitably and environmental sustainability has been awarded a multi-million dollar grant by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Illinois Corn Growers Association (ICGA), AgSolver, and 21 other agriculture entities were awarded the grant for their Precision Conservation Management (PCM) program at the ICGA office on February 12, 2016.

Dave Muth, Senior Vice President of Analytics at AgSolver, is excited for the collaborative efforts of the companies that will benefit precision business planning and environmental sustainability throughout the Midwest.

“The Illinois Corn Growers Association have pulled together a unique and capable consortium of public, private, and nonprofit partners for their PCM program. This consortium will provide great benefit for helping farmers improve the environment and their financial standing simultaneously,” says Muth.

PCM is an innovative program that is designed to apply financial farm business planning with precision conservation technology to provide farmers a foundation to make conservation based decisions in their fields. The PCM program focuses on four main priorities for helping farmers in Illinois, Iowa, and Kentucky:

• Promote Adoption of Conservation Programs
• Encourage Participation in Conservation Programs
• Track, Analyze, and Demonstrate Changes in Farmer Practices
• Improve Crop Production, Water Quality, Soil Health, and Help Avoid the Need for Regulatory Requirements

Jeff Jarboe, President of the Illinois Corn Growers Association, understands the value of this program for environmental quality in Illinois and surrounding states.

“With this grant funding from USDA, Illinois farmers will really be able to move the needle on making those incremental, voluntary improvements that help improve soil quality, manage our nutrients, and produce a high-value crop,” said Jarboe.

PCM is attractive to farmers as it looks at conservation from a Midwest farmer’s perspective. The program focuses on protecting the business interest of farmers while implementing conservation practices that benefit the environment and local communities.
