My Experience Of Being A Detested Misfit In Regressive Indian Society

I can’t imagine what it’s like living in that kind of society. My earliest experience with misogyny was with my father not even showing up to my birth because well, it’s a girl. Nothing to be happy about apparently. I think there are many parts of the world where you can enjoy self-expression without being demeaned as a worthless female…but I think even in the most progressive societies, this sort of misogynistic attitude exists. Everywhere. In everyone. In more subtle ways that do still affect women, and in some ways, so subtle that men don’t see this. I grew up in Canada and have moved across the globe — and everywhere I see evidence of women being defined as less than men. It’s really not that I am looking for it, but it’s just right in your face. Still, there are varying degrees of this…and no one is deliberately making my life miserable by calling me names based on what I wear. I am really sorry that you have to experience this…and I truly hope that you and your mom gets to leave and go somewhere soon where people have a heart.
