I’m Sexy And I Know it… Sorta

Sexy. What is it, and how can I get it? Is it something that you’re born with. Is it a learned behavior, force fed to us from every form of media out there? Who knows? What I do know is that I do not have it.

This is the main reason why I absolutely love the Netflix original ‘Chewing Gum.’ It focuses on oddball out, Tracey Gordon.

Tracey is relatable to say the least. She was sheltered and restricted for most of her life. And curiosity has finally emerged from beneath the well-behaved exterior. The only problem is, she can’t be like everyone else because socially, she is different. Of course, she heard the musicians and saw the movies about love, sex, and dating in your twenties, but seeing it and living it are two different things.

The Tracey character is genius because, it explores many different facets of womanhood. Maybe not every woman can relate to taking horrific sexy selfies or accidentally drinking cocaine water (that definitely happened once), but the being in search of an identity part, yeah, that is definitely universal.

I can’t be the sex symbol I see on television, but I also cannot be the virtuous woman in biblical stories and guidelines. I can only be myself, but sometimes when you’re in a room filled with noisy music, it is hard to find the beat of your own drum.
