ambr, Inc. (CEO: Takuya Nishimura; hereafter “ambr”), the metaverse creative company located in Tokyo, is pleased to announce that we have appointed our improved metaverse development product called “xambr v2” to develop the TOKYO GAME SHOW VR 2022 (hereafter TGSVR2022). Utilizing new features such as Game Quest System and Avatar Customization System, we will provide a Virtual Event Game Experience, which will add a game-like feel to virtual events.
About the Metaverse Development Product “xambr v2” and Virtual Event Game Experience
“xambr (pronounced cross-amber)” is our original base system that can create a multiplayer VR application. In the past, it was adopted as the platform for “TOKYO GAME SHOW VR 2021” and “Magic: The Gathering Virtual Art Exhibition”.
This time, we have made significant changes to the xambr and developed “xambr v2”, which includes features such as Game Quest System and Avatar Customization System. It made it possible to produce the “Virtual Event Game Experience” that adds a game-like feel to virtual events.
This year, TGSVR 2022 has decided to adopt the xambr v2 and Virtual Event Game Experience to operate their annual event.
■ Game Quest System
The Game Quest System can set up quests and quest rewards. Players can enjoy a virtual event by challenging various quests to advance a story. In TGSVR2022, there are over seventy different quests to play, including watching videos about the latest game information, taking pictures of characters, finding hidden items in the strata, answering the quizzes, and so on.
Users can earn outfit items and t-shirts by completing quests. After finishing multiple quests, the main story advances and the dungeon evolves to a new phase.
You can always check the information about the quests from Menu UI. The sorting feature makes it easy to find selected quests, such as those of each area as well as uncompleted ones.
■ Avatar Customization System
This feature allows users to freely customize the design of their avatars. You can choose body parts (e.g. skin color, hair style and color, and eye shape) and outfits (e.g. head, body, and foot). By setting these parts and outfits as quest rewards, you can combine the Game Quest System and Avatar Customization System together.
In TGSVR2022, there are 3D items that are original to this event and ones that are made in collaboration with some exhibiting companies to decorate your avatars.
■ Improved Graphic Quality with Universal Render Pipeline
By shifting the rendering pipeline to Unity’s Universal Render Pipeline, the quality of the graphics drastically improved. Especially on Quest 2, it provides post-processing effects and makes graphics clearer, brighter, and more vivid. You can feel and enjoy this improvement in TGSVR2022.
■ Compatible with Valve Index by Shifting to Open XR
Open XR is a type of API that standardizes the functions of various VR/AR platforms among different devices and applications. This time, xambr has shifted to Open XR and become compatible with a new VR device, Valve Index.

About the Virtual Event Game Experience at TGSVR2022
The main objective of TGSVR2022 is to evolve the Game Show to a new phase — Virtual Event Game Experience. To make this happen, we focused on designing three components — Space, Story, and Game.
■ Space Design: Dungeon
We understand the bottom line of the game is to experience “adventures” and “searching for the unknown world”. We design the space based on the keyword “dungeon” so that everyone can easily understand and feel it as the game experience.
Players will explore the huge dungeon spread beneath Makuhari Messe and find information at exhibiting companies’ booths.
The key visual was illustrated by the manga artist Sumito Oowara, who is the author of “Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!”.
■ Story Design: A Story to Find Out About Games
We have designed “a story to find out about games”, where visiting booths of exhibiting companies itself becomes part of the story. Robots and mole characters in this world are excavating artifacts called “games” in the “Game Strata”. Players who are big fans of “games” will find out about the mysteries of this world by participating in this archaeological project.
■ Game Design: Quest System
TGSVR2022 is studded with quests tied to exhibitors’ spaces. To enjoy a wide variety of content that varies among exhibitors, we have adopted the Game Quest System, which allows many variations in the process of completing quests. TGSVR2022 is more than just a treasure hunt game. It has evolved into a quest game, where players can enjoy even more by customizing their avatars and advancing the story.
