I wouldn’t trust that title either. I’ve know lots of CMOs that don’t know crap about real marketing, they know how to talk within an EC meeting, they know how to talk to the board, they know how to go to a conference and sound really intelligent — but if they had to do marketing, like real, hard tactical planning and execution — they’d fall on their faces.

Trust the guy/girl that is willing to show you the actual results — good or bad — of what they’ve tried. Show me a person that has tried 100 different ways and failed at 95 of them — those people are the real marketing gurus.
