How ‘Body Talk’ Changed My Life

I started talking to my body, as in having a conversation with it. And it changed my life. It was a one-sided conversation, clearly. I’m not talking about losing my mind here, I’m talking about a practical tool for rewiring your relationship with your physical body that produces impressive results.

My body talk starts with a fluke accident

It all started with a fluke accident that left me with a hip fracture so rare, it was called a ‘skateboard’ fracture. (As it was generally only young skateboarder kids doing contorted tricks that ended up falling at the weird angle I did!).

It was touch and go for many months, but when my body pulled back the piece of bone and nerves that had come loose and I avoided an operation, I did develop a newfound appreciation for my body… but also a terror of ever having such a big injury again.

So at first it wasn’t my body I was talking to, it was ‘the Powers That Be’, shall we say. I developed a sort of superstitious habit where every time I’d pass someone who was injured, I’d pray up to anything that might be listening. “Thank you thank you thank you for this functioning body, I am so deeply grateful”.

The night talking to my body fully began
