Pols: The Essence of Ahmedabad
When I took a walk from Kalupur Tower to Relief Road in the old city of Ahmedabad.
People, life within the walled city of Amdavad, walking in the gullies (residential streets) and among the Pols (architectural style of houses) create a great amalgam of emotions.
From morning to evening, each moment relates to the other. I started capturing street life on early mornings with a mobile camera. Morning prayers, tea stalls, architecture, stray animals, etc and I observed each seemed to connect with the rhythm called Life.
Each of them have their own space and independent existence and yet, are living in the harmonious environment sustained by the Pols. With routine chores and changing times, the pols bring the past to the present.
Heritage is just a word to many of us, but for the people of the Pols, it is a religion. This religion has carried on, through a multitude of generations through trust and each other’s support. Take a walk from Kalupur Tower to Relief Road at any time of day and feel the essence of the Pols speak to you itself.
