Epilogue: My First Dog Was A Dud

Even though Chip had a list of medical problems a mile long, the end still managed to surprise me. Maybe it’s usually like that.

I came home from a few hours out, took one look at him, and knew he was having another episode. Chip could barely move, but didn’t want to anyways. He flinched to be petted and his eyes wandered aimlessly in circles.

Probably he had some progressive neurological problem causing or coinciding with the more readily-observable ones. I knew each hospitalization and return home would only get uglier. Chip’s last week, even the first half of his last day, were actually quite good.

After almost 11 years, this one’s in the books.
