Ways To Make Money From Your Rubbish

Tom’s Junk Collectors Guide

The days when rubbish was the term used to describe unwanted items that we simply threw into the bin without a second thought are fast becoming a thing of the past. Instead we all now have a responsibility to recycle as much as possible and even reuse items that we would have just thrown away previously. There are many great ways to turn one useless thing into another very useful item but wouldn’t it be nice if you could actually get your rubbish to make you some money? Well it turns out it can as the following great ways to make money from your rubbish will show.

Many of you will have heard of the term ‘E Waste’, which is used to describe unwanted electrical goods of many different types, shapes and sizes. Most of these have to be disposed of in a specific centre thanks to batteries, metals and chemicals that they contain and many waste reuse and collection centres will come and take away the items for you free of charge. But there are now companies that will buy your unwanted electrical goods from you and you will be amazed how many you have knocking about the house. So gather them all together and see just how much money you could make.

Clothes are another thing that we tend to throw away without a backward glance but they are very saleable and you could find yourself surprised at just how much you can get for them. There are many shops that will buy unwanted clothes on the basis of weight. You take them in and they give you so much money per kilo. Other shops are more specialist and buy designer and good quality clothing and give a fair price for them. Alternatively if you have the time take a picture of each item and list them on an online auction site.

Have a look online for a recycling company that is offering rewards when you carry out certain things that can be redeemed as vouchers or cash. This could be as something as simple as taking a re-usable mug with you to your local coffee shop or stopping the daily plastic bottle of mineral water but there are lots of options to make money on offer so find one you like the look of and get signed up.

Visit your local recycling centre and find out if they are offering money for items of rubbish. For example you may find that they give so much money per kilo of aluminium cans or other items and you can then start collecting them and redeem your rubbish for money.

General household items that you no longer want or that no longer work can also be a good way to make some money. A table that isn’t any good to you because one of its legs is broken may be exactly what someone else is looking for as a new project for their wood working hobby. Take a look at the want lists online and in your local newspapers and consider the free classified ads as a way to advertise your rubbish and make some money. Online auctions sites, garage sales and car boot sales are also fantastic ways to get rid of your household junk and make some cash. If you only have a few items to get rid of, talk to a friend or neighbour to see if they are interested in pooling your rubbish.
