Animal cruelty: Let’s find an end.

Colette, a four year-old pit bull, is just one out of millions of animals that have been abused in the United States. Colette was brought into a South Carolina animal shelter with many infected bite wounds. She was labeled as a bait dog. The shelter she was rescued at didn’t stop at just saving Colette. The rescuers took her case to the next level to file a police report, in hopes to save many other dogs just like Colette. Thankfully, she was rescued and put into a forever home with a family that loves her dearly.
There are ways to help, not only dogs, but all animals that have experienced cruelty just like Colette.

The chart above is to help you see the different types of animal abuse, with the most favored being neglect/abandonment. Animal abuse in America is no laughing matter. It doesn’t have to consist of just hitting an animal either. There are many types of abuse animals can go through, pictured in the graph above. Although some abuse cases may be worse than others, ALL ABUSE IS WRONG. As humans, we have the upper hand. Animals don’t fully understand the concept of abuse. It’s our job to protect and keep them safe. Don’t be afraid to report an animal abuse case, you could potentially be saving a life.
America’s Current Animal Abuse Problem.
Nobody knows the exact number of animals who are abused or neglected annually, but it’s our job to try and reverse the numbers. By confronting this horrible crisis head-on, we can draw encouragement and strength and changes the lives of many animals. All it takes is one small act of kindness, and an animals life may be changed forever. Especially if all they’ve ever come to know was the life of abuse.

What is the punishment for animal cruelty in Florida?
Animal cruelty is now a big issue for people who commit it in Florida. If you are found guilty of animal cruelty, it’s automatically a felony. It has been raised from a level 3, to a level 5 felony. “It’s a predictor. People who commit animal cruelty are very, very likely to commit cruelty to violence to humans, children,” said Kate McFall, with the Humane Society.

Why animal abuse needs to stop, NOW.
The abuse of animals, large and small, can take an effect on an entire community. Millions of animals are getting hurt each day. We need to make major changes to stop this from being a daily problem in America. “Whenever an animal is abused, a chain reaction begins in our community. Not only does an innocent animal get injured, but the person who commits the offense often falls into a cycle that could ultimately result in violence against other people,” stated on the Wisconsin Humane Society Website. Breaking the cycle of animal cruelty can be an easy task if everyone had the same mindset about saving and caring for animals.
Take action against animal cruelty.
There are many different ways you can help turn around animal cruelty cases. Take action by reporting any unusual activity you see, even if it’s your neighbor. You could potentially be saving a life in danger. Volunteer at local animal shelters, and of course ADOPT DON’T SHOP. Start using cruelty free products! Larger companies are known for testing their products on animals first, which is awful! It’s unnecessary and sometimes life threatening. Especially in the conditions they are kept in. Last but not least, you can always donate to your local shelters to help get food and other items needed to house the animals in need.
BE A HERO TO THE ANIMALS.
