This was after years of working escalating overtime and facing increasing criticism from customers and colleagues.
We fired our top talent. Best decision we ever made.

I’d be interested to read the prequel to this

I used to be the almost-sole developer on a project. I watched myself writing inefficient spaghetti code. I watched myself unable to answer the question “how long will it take”. I watched myself stay at work until 2am to get things pushed out without tests (an effort that was lauded in front of the whole company). My own response was to spiral into self-loathing, but I can easily imagine why someone would conclude that the problem was with the world around them. If the world tells you that you are the chosen one who must save it, it might be your tragedy to believe it.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
