My Immigrant Mother’s Difficult Job Search
Megan Reynolds

This feels painfully familiar to me. My mother isn’t an immigrant, but she was laid off around age 60 after working for one employer for about 10 years. My dad was fighting cancer, so she wasn’t too motivated to find another job right after, and then my dad passed away, so she got caught up in grief & depression. My dad didn’t leave a lot for her to live on, but she has survivor benefits & will get a sizable inheritance after my grandmother dies, so she basically is retired because she stopped looking for a job and spends her time taking care of my grandmother now.
