As it happens this is why I felt motivated to write this…there’s some awesome thinking around this coming out of the European countries, Australia, Singapore, but all of them have a far more consolidated federal government. The USA is wildly culturally diverse. It’s geographically gigantic. Plus we have our bizarre system that we’ve had since the beginning, in which states are equivalent in power to the federal government (federalism). We have no national IDs, we have no federal police (well kind of, the FBI, but they have to ask permission to operate locally). So while I don’t really have any advice on the European situation just from lack of experience, I’m somewhat pleasantly surprised to learn that my message, which I thought was only really applicable to the USA, might have some resonance over there as well.
