“Jesus fully realized all that was going to happen to him, so he stepped forward to meet them. “Who are you looking for?” he asked.” John 18:4
The time for Jesus’ purpose on earth had come. Judas, the betrayer, brought a small army to arrest Jesus in the very spot that Jesus had brought Judas to teach him secrets of the Kingdom before this dark moment. The torture that faced Jesus is truly unthinkable. He was fully aware what was right around the corner for Him. Every brutal detail of the beating, mocking, and crucifixion was known. So He stepped forward. Here we have Jesus not backing down from the intense suffering but stepping forward to meet evil itself with assurance of total victory. This is the picture of strength and courage.
Most of us will never face crucifixion (Thank the Lord) but we all have trials and suffering of all sorts in our lives that we have a hard time facing much less moving with confidence towards!
So the question is how?! How do we not head for the hills in hard situations? He do we face the demons that are big and scary? How do we not allow criticism, doubt, or haters to derail our purpose?
Take a page out of the greatest book ever written by the greatest man who ever lived. Jesus stepped forward. Jesus knew that evil was lurking but He also knew that victory was His.
The question He asked them is interesting here “Who are you looking for?” Obviously He knew they were looking for Him. That’s just it! In this question He was reaffirming His identity. He is the Savior of the world! He is the Son of God. He is the One chosen to face this horrible trial ans conquor.
Knowing who we are and knowing that we are already victorious in Christ gives us the ability to step forward in difficult situations.
Hard times are inevitable. Suffering is inevitable. Criticism is inevitable. Even better, victory in Christ is inevitable! With that knowledge we can step forward in every situation.
