Elafonisi Beach — Out of this world beach on Crete Island
We all know how beautiful Greek islands are. Santorini, Mykonos, Zakynthos. Crete island is also known as one of the most wonderful island in Greece. Rich with history and ancient monuments and temples Crete have something else to offer- Elafonisi beach.
My sister lives in Crete almost 12 years with her husband in small village called Kondura. This little peaceful vilage is located near Paliohora a small city located on the opposite side of buzzing Heraklion .Near her place there is one of the most fascinating beaches- Elafonisi.
Elafonisi is a pink sand beach located in west part of Crete island this small idyllic beach is magnet for everyone. During the season is full with tourists ( may-october) out of the season is just a wonderful and quite place.
Getting to Elafonisi
From airport in Chania to Elafonisi is 78 km not far at all, plus road is very colorful and fascinating and is always a pleasure to go that road. When you arrive at the airport you can catch a bus to Paliochora and from there to catch a local transport to Elafonisi or rent a car and drive to there.
Was April 2015, Easter time for me and i was traveling From Tel Aviv to Chania. Got a public bus from the airport to bus station in Chania. After few minutes i got my ticket for Paliaochora and from there i walk to my sister house ( 4km)
Spend few days exploring the landscape but i have one thing on my mind- Going to Elasonisi beach. My brother -in-law took me there with a car, Once we got there i was witnessing one of the most beautiful views.. Was noon and sun was highly on the horizon, tho was mid April temperature was around 25 c and was great moment to swim in the very clear sea.
Elafonisi area is protect cause is part of the national park. So be careful to not spoil that lovely place with garbage. Beach it self is very well organize and have anything you need.West position of the beach give you an outstanding chance to enjoy in magnificent sunset.
For me as nature lover this fantastic spot is more than perfect for my Yoga activities and meditation. Those who love to have some drinks and enjoy on the sun there is a plenty of counters and bars on the beach. Elafonisi during the season is full with tourists.
This is the reason why i love to go off season on Elafonisi. Than you can chat with the locals who live around , you can have this fantatic spot for yourself.
