Increased Flooding Altering Ecosystem for Residentials
South Floridians are no stranger to downpours during hurricane season; in fact it is very much expected for this season. In my own residential area north of the Palmetto the last 72 hours have overturned more than 6 inches of rain. (http://www.iweathernet.com/total-rainfall-map-24-hours-to-72-hours )The increasing water levels has prompted nearby lakes to overfill and an evacuation of the areas local bird population. A drive to the local grocery store took almost twice as long when trying to navigate on a moped without drudging through deep pools of murky water. Instead, a new population of animals have slowly migrated into the area and taken over the recently vacated area. Ducks and other avian creatures have been seen in abundance over the last weekend. These new animals seem to relish this new wet and damp area. Have the flooding and overturned water sources brought forth a new population of insects in an all you can eat buffet? What else will the season bring to our dear South Florida? We can only stay tuned in.
