Why We Chose ATOM.com
I have been involved in many category domain names and branded businesses. I have owned or been an owner in Beer*com.Shop.com, Diamond*com, Telephone*com, Phone*com,Chocolate*com, and of course Founded CreditCards*com and InsuranceQuotes*com as operating businesses and this is a small sample. I am a shareholder and advisor in Honeymoons*com which is crushing it. I have recently overseen the sale of Legal.*com,Football*com, Chat*com, Home*com, to name a few. It is fair to say I believe in category defining domains:). With that said, we spent many weeks on the SH decision before coming to Atom and as @Darpan said ran extensive testing, because Atom is first and foremost a technology company which is what makes it so exciting to me because domain name industry players are not and that is and will ultimately be the game changer. The last thing we were interested in was a domain name centric brand such as domain*com or something along that line. There are many strategic reasons for this, but the main one is, this is going to be much more comprehensive than just a domain marketplace, and already is in many ways . However, we also work with a lot of enterprise clients, huge brands, and the entire basis of the platform is to help companies use technology and testing and the marketplace to determine a great brand. It will also become a building block for other assets once they have the domain. The reason part of our investment included the starting of an ultra premium marketplace was so we could also create more visibility and sales for premium category domains and brandable domains. So far exceeding expectations but it’s so early on and lots to do. Of course, we had the Adam versus Atom discussion way too long. It was the perfect choice besides that one point and we determined the pros outweigh the cons. So whether you love it, which many do or hate it, or most likely something in between, time will tell but I wanted to explain how we got there.
