Opera Mini: Pending Mysteries
Opera Mini is a mobile web browser available on both Android and iOS platforms, and among most used browsers in Nigeria. Even though the global browser market share gained by Opera is low compared to leading browsers Chrome and Firefox the 2.38% is too much to be ignored. Hence web developers should build interfaces to work great on Opera Mini too.
There exist a lot of stories of how modern web interfaces look mysterious on Opera Mini, I personally confirmed it while hunting bugs on timbu.com.
Timbu is one of the leading travel sites in Nigeria for both local and international travels including Germany, London, and the USA. The platform also helps travelers with services including accommodation and flight reservation, Visa application processes, and admission to study in foreign institutions.
It was quite mysterious to see how the whole web interface of timbu.com breaks when visited using Opera Mini, as in the screenshots below.
The only exception to this graphic breakage is just the footer alone.
It’s high time for Opera Mini to solve the pending mystery and upgrade their app to work seamlessly with modern frontend engineering technologies, or probably the timbu.com engineers should redesign their site to be compatible with Opera Mini and similar browsers, to accommodate wider usage.
