Drones

A drone, as most know, is an unmanned aircraft or ship that can navigate autonomously, without human control or beyond line of sight. Like most products today, drones do not just come in one size and model. In fact, the makes and models of drones are endless. With there being so many different types and sizes of drones the prices are all over the map. A crazy small drone with a flight time of five to six minutes can cost only $38. However, a large drone that can fly for about twenty minutes can cost up to $2899. With that being a cost of a large drone for recreation use, you can only imagine the cost of military drones.

Since the supply of drones is so large, and on Christmas day alone (2015) there was an expected 400,000 new drones to be unwrapped, the drone laws and regulations are rapidly increasing. The first regulation is to register the drone through the FAA. The government is making this mandatory because they see the drones as a potential privacy breaker, dangerously interfering with large aircraft, and generally cause mischief. With registering the drones, they hope to help operators use the device safely through education and accountability (money.cnn.com). If you fail to register your drone that weighs more that .55 pounds and less than 55 pounds, you could face up to three years in jail or $250,000 in fines.

Drones are a growing popularity everyday. They can be used for many different purposes, which is why it is a great idea to have to register the drones. For that little kid just wanting to fly it around the backyard, there is no issue. However, for that trouble maker that is using the drone for the wrong reasons, if need be, they can look up the drone on the registered site. With the website to register the drones their goal is to eliminate the wrong use of them, but not everyone will put the information in, so it is a gamble. My favorite part of the registering of the drones is the fact that is keeps a count on how many drones are out there. With the growing popularity or drones, more problems and laws are likely to arise, but the only thing to try and stop that is to educate the pilots using and flying them.
