It implies an intent to confuse people by switching stories rapidly.
I don’t see “gaslighting” as being the best term here.

Not what gaslighting means…the term actually comes from a very old film called gaslight. It was about an abusive husband who drove his wife crazy by constantly flickering the gaslights, in their home (before electricity, there were “gas lights”) and telling her the lights were fine. He keeps telling her she’s crazy, when the lights actually WERE flickering. She was right, he was a psychopath.
