How to create an animated chart

Tableau needs one Time Dimension and one Measure to create a Motion chart.

Prerequisite

1. I am using Tableau public for this

2. Dataset used for creating the motion chart is superstore.

Steps

1. Connect to the data source

2. Place the quarter of order date in columns, the sum of profit in rows

3. Place the quarter of order date in the pages shelf

4. Place the category in the color of the mark pane

5. Moving chart is ready, click on the play button on the right side to see the movement of data points, we can the speed to one step,2 step change, or 3 step change.

6. To see old history points, click on show history.

Then click on the dropdown arrow next to it. For “Marks to Show History For” select “All”. Then under “Show”, select “Both”. Selecting “Marks” shows only the points and selecting “Trails” shows only the line. Click the Play button. The following chart appear

6.To make it more pretty add the sum(profit),category to label, we play this in loop also .add the shade to sheet .
