Demystifying the AMO Logo

You’ve seen it on our t-shirts, and you’ve probably spotted the “∞” shaped roads in our Facebook/Twitter cover photos too.

The AMO logo has been a hot topic lately among our supporters, who’ve been throwing out all kinds of guesses at its inspiration, from our CEO’s glasses, to car headlights.

But today we’re finally going to quench your burning curiosity and explain the philosophy behind AMO’s logo — with insights from the logo designer himself, JiRok Song!

“First of all, the logo features a lemniscate that signifies the virtuous cycle that AMO will set in motion. It’s a promise, enabled by blockchain technology, of value exchanged between data consumers and data producers. The pentagons that make up the symbol are a tribute to our parent company, Penta Security Systems. You could also say they symbolize our five core elements of mobility.”

Here’s a breakdown of each element he mentioned:

The Lemniscate ∞

Better known as the infinity symbol, it signifies…well, infinitude! But more than just limitless, endless, or boundless, the lemniscate relates to AMO in the continuous motion of data and value. Envisioning a virtuous cycle of distributed benefits unleashed by a decentralized, secure data-sharing platform, data will no longer be bound up in the private servers of a few technology companies but available on an open market for all.

Two Pentagons

The sharp-eyed observer will probably notice that AMO’s logo is no plain old pair of ovals. Instead, it’s made up of two conjoined pentagon shapes, paying homage to our technological roots in parent company, Penta Security. However, the five sides of a pentagon also represent our five core elements of mobility: Security, Platform, Automation Driving, Connected, Electrification — which together spell the acronym SPACE.

“AMO”

Since we’re at it, we might as well explain also the choice of naming our project AMO. At the heart of blockchain technology is cryptography, which the team happens to have over 20 years of deep expertise. Now, a closely related word, “encryption,” in the Korean language is translated as 암호화 (pronounced “am-ho-hwa”). Taking the first two syllables of that, you get what sounds like “amo”. As an extra piece of trivia, Penta Security encryption product line D’Amo is so named for the similar reasons (D’Amo can be said to stand for “database encryption”).

Contrary to popular belief, this focus on data encryption and handling isn’t always a given in many blockchain projects. While data on the blockchain can’t be easily tampered, people forget to question if it hasn’t been tampered on its way to and from the blockchain.

However, in terms of providing a secure data transaction environment, AMO is unmatched and strives to live up to its heritage.
