Git

Learnt how to rename a branch today!

git branch -m old-name new-name

Found this very useful.

Terminal

How to list all processes:

ps aux

We can also search for the name of a particular process

ps aux | grep ulysses

which means that we, first, get the results of ps aux, and then we pass / pipe them to the grep command with the value ulysses — this will show the process:

computer-name 123 <more-info>

And then we can stop the process:

kill 123

If that doesn’t work, we can force a kill:

kill -9 123

React / Redux

Worked on fixing a few bugs in some older components today, and it was interesting to see how frameworks change over time — those components were created using Flux, and other differences in style / composition. It was difficult getting my head around how data was being passed around, and it reminded me, again, that there is so much flux (sorry) in web development — the rate of change is fast, and that both great, because things are being refined and improved, but also a bit nerve-racking, because there’s so much to learn, and it makes me worried that I’ll end up being a jack-of-all-trades and master-of-none….
