All About Vine
And What It Can Do For Your Organisation
Have you heard about a great little video app that launched at the beginning of last year?
We’re going to show you what it can do for your charity or ethical business and how other charities have already harnessed its potential.
It’s called Vine.
What is It?
It’s a 6-second video mobile app available on iPhone and Android.
You create the video on the app, once you’ve downloaded it, and can then embed it in tweets so people will be immediately drawn to them as they scroll through your Twitter feed.
Vine is inevitably being used to feature videos of canine bowling and cute kittens (because the internet doesn’t have enough of that stuff!) but it is also being successfully used by a lot of charities.
And that’s what interests us today. You can watch the kittens later ;)
Why should I bother?
Because it’s simple, fun, and very effective!
It’s totally free as well as ridiculously easy to download.
Making your first video will also literally only take you 6 seconds!
How does it work?
On your freshly downloaded Vine app, you just touch the screen to start your 6 seconds of recording time.
Touch the screen again to create separate frames. You can then preview the film, and add a caption and hashtags before posting it on Twitter and Facebook.
Why does it work?
Vine took off really quickly with charities.
It’s a perfect tool for charities because it’s quick and easy to create content. There’s also a certain DIY feel to it that’s raw and endearing. You can keep it real with Vine — show your true face — something social media users value. Maybe even introduce your team to supporters!
What can I say in 6 seconds?!
You’d be surprised! A clear and simple message is easy to communicate in this time.
Use Vine for fundraising campaigns, calls to action, to thank donors and volunteers, to broadcast your successes and raise awareness….be creative- the possibilities are endless!
A few great examples of charities using Vine:
#RedWorldRecord
The AIDS fighting charity (RED) launched a campaign back in June to set the first world record for the most Vine recordings sent for a social cause in a single day.
And they did it!
Diabetes UK
Diabetes UK used Vine to thank their supporters for their fundraising efforts with a lovely thank you Vine.
This charity used Vine to promote their cause, with this great video.
Here’s another example of how Vine can get a message across super efficiently by getting straight to the point.
