If your writing goal is about more than just sharing your thoughts, you better have a strategy after you hit publish.

We all write for different reasons. Some people do it to get a book deal, some to generate web traffic for their business, some to share their personal experiences, and others do it just for fun. No matter what your reasoning, if you are writing with the intent of having other people read what you’ve poured your heart and soul into, you need to understand that after you hit publish is when your journey begins.

There is no denying that writing something meaningful is a labor of love. It takes time, passion, and grit to push through the feelings of…

Three tips for non-writers to get your next writing piece shipped.

An idea pops into your head. Maybe it’s a comment on something in the news, maybe it’s a review of a new product, or maybe it’s a plot point for the next great work of fiction.

You’re energized. You know this idea has potential so you rush to your favored idea absorber and start. You get the first idea down, then another, but then it happens. The one thing I dread on every writing project I’ve ever started. The realization that your one good idea wasn’t any more than a single paragraph.

This is going to require more work.

Level up your marketing skills by creating video games.

Telling stories, working with technology, and creating visuals that carry a consistent aesthetic. These traits apply to most fields in marketing, but they apply to another exciting and rapidly changing field; game development.

About a month ago, I came across a fantasy console called the PICO-8. You can deep dive into what makes fantasy consoles great or check out this handy comparison guide, but here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Fantasy Consoles are like any other console but there’s no physical hardware. …

Evaluating your marketing efforts during COVID-19

When cash flow gets tight, it’s often marketing that sees the axe first. With a little creative thinking, you can turn this budget reduction into an opportunity to evaluate your existing marketing strategy, help your company through the downtime, but also provide a more budget effective strategy for the future.

If you are like many small businesses, you probably have a chunk of your marketing budget in digital ad platforms like Google Adwords, and Facebook/Instagram Ads as well as some sort of content creation and promotion strategy. No matter how effective these channels are at driving traffic and sales during…

Stop sabotaging yourself and get going.

There are two main struggles I have in my life. One is getting started and the other is finishing. I’ve managed to be successful in the middle part. If you need to get better at the starting and finishing part of any project, I’m here to help. First, let’s look at what causes those struggles and some things you can do today to get over it.

Why You Aren’t Starting

When you avoid starting any task or project it’s usually for a simple reason. Fear. You are afraid that you are going to fail. You are afraid that the project is bigger than you…

Thank you all for joining me on the Thoughtless Opinions journey. I apologize that I haven’t been writing a lot recently. This new year has been a busy one. But, things have settled down and you can start expecting at least one new article a week, hopefully, more.

Also, if you have your own thoughtless opinions that you’d like to share, come write for us! We’d love to have you.

Cheers and thank you again

The movie-going experience was made for one.

The first time is awkward.

You’re not really sure where to look or how to act. Do I make small talk or just stay silent? Everything should feel familiar, but it all seems so foreign. Is there any way I’m going to be able to last for over an hour?

I’m talking, of course, about going to the movies by yourself. And like many of life’s greatest pleasures, it gets easier with a little bit of practice.

The first time you set foot in a theatre alone, it’s almost impossible not to start doubting what you are doing. The feeling…

Simple steps for actually starting and finishing your novel.

I have met many people who have romanticized the idea of being a novelist. Sitting in a sun-soaked room, with a warm cup of coffee, maybe a bourbon, clacking away on a keyboard, each and every word bringing them closer to literary greatness. Every single person has a great idea about a novel but the dream ends at the idea. An incomplete idea that never gets written; a story untold. Then there’s the group of people who start writing but they never complete the book. …

Make a little more room for fun in your daily life.

Life is amazing.

But things that suck happen. They happen to you, they happen to me and more often than not there is no good reason for them. When you stop and think about all the things that are wrong with the world it can be very depressing. There’s a lot of truly serious stuff going on in the world.

Then there are the truly serious issues that many of us face every day. Like when our name is spelled incorrectly on our coffee cups. Or we step in a puddle and get our shoes wet. …

Erasing the just-woke-up-from-a-bad-nap feeling and taking breaks that actually improve your life.

Great naps are a myth to me. I envy all the people out there who can fall asleep and actually wake up feeling more alert and ready to go. If I take a nap in the middle of the day, that’s the end of the day. Sleep is the only thing my brain wants to do. It’s like day drinking, a lunch cocktail never ends at lunch.

For me, the myth of the quality nap also applies to the vacations and time off of work. Going away from work doesn’t make me more productive, it reminds me how much I…
