It’s very important to understand how the information is going to flow into a Business Intelligence Solution. This process is a step-by-step process as shown below.
In the diagram shown above, the initial step is to identify the source systems which will be required to extract the relevant information. There after the extracted information will be loaded into a Data Warehouse, which will allow the BI Portal to access the information being stored. The user will be able to access the information in the Data Warehouse through the BI Portal in the form of reports and dashboards.
ETL Process
There is a systematic process which is followed when the information of the source system is loaded to the data warehouse. This process is called ETL (Extract-Transform-Load).
- Extract — Extract data from the required source or multiple sources.
- Transform — Transform the extracted data as per operational needs.
- Load — Load the transformed data to the target databases or data warehouses.
