( This is a continuation of the previous post see that one for context)

After spending the night and one day in Lahore we set out for the second leg of this journey which was from Lahore to Islamabad. There was only one road we had to take and it was called M1 or the Lahore – Islamabad motorway this journey was roughly 5 hrs long . Initially we planned to go stopping for only bathroom breaks, but then decided to visit the second largest salt mine in the world at khewra. The detour increased the travelling time quite a bit to about 7-8 hours minimum it can increase based on the time you stay in the mine. Upon exiting the motorway at the designated exit we entered a small village with a single road and my friends this was possibly one of the worst roads of the entire journey. It seemed as if it had been last worked upon in the 1960s the distance we had to travel on this road was only about 23 km it took more then an hour to get there because of the quality of the road. Upon arriving to the entrance we were asked to pay 400 rs for adults.(for foreigners it was 20$). There was an option to walk by ourselves or take the train we took the train and entered the mine. The guide explained to us in great detail the history of the mine and how salt is collected. There were some sculptures made of pure salt bricks as well of a mosque, minaar e Pakistan and etc. One of the most exciting things I found in the mine was that usually people expect a mine to be hot, but in this case it almost seemed like we were in a well air conditioned area despite the temperature outside being 40degrees. The guide explained that they used vents to maintain the temperature and no matter the weather outside the temperature inside stays the same. Once we were done picture taking we exited the mine and drive another painful 20 km before eventually arriving on the motorway and continuing our smooth journey onto the well planned and second most beautiful capital in the world of Islamabad.
