Are Trump and Brexit our Arab Spring?

Many people in the West were giddy when they saw the Arab Spring take hold in Tunisia, spreading through Egypt, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. They were proud of average Arab citizens rising up to take power back from the elite establishment. They are no longer proud or giddy — instead they are freaking out. The prospect of the average citizen taking back their countries here in the US and UK scares the hell out of the elite establishment.

It is interesting how differently we view these relatively similar events. The elites in the United States and Britain just can’t understand why their citizens are rejecting their rule — just as Arab leaders didn’t understand. The same folks who praised the Arab protestors are calling the American and British protestors uneducated racist bigots. Just as the Arab elites derided and ridiculed the protestors — further alienating themselves — our elites are doing the same.

Just a hint: if you someone a racist bigot they are far less likely to listen to you. They’re going to shut down and ignore you. The vast majority of them are not racists or bigot s— but instead of debating the issues and trying to understand their concerns you resort to ad hominem attacks. The worst part is that when you push your citizens to the edge they have nothing to lose — they’ll make horrible decisions because you’ve given them no other option. Quit calling the citizens of America and Britain names…
