I’ve been sitting here trying to come up with a respectful way to respond to your criticism — I’m struggling. First of all, I don’t think 20-somethings would have difficulty understanding a rational explanation of the inherent risks of joining a startup. If you weren’t kidding, suggesting otherwise is inflammatory and offensive. Furthermore, you’re not just warning them and weeding out those without the stomach for the startup world — you’re asking them for a commitment to help control the narrative related to your company’s prognosis. The same is true for the 30-somethings and 40-somethings that might join your startup. What is the alternative? Continue to lie by omission?
