Dear SF Ali,
thank you for your honesty and openness. My years in the mainstream mental health business showed me that mostly well meaning professionals can do great damage when acting from terribly flawed premises.
There is genuine help out there. The much maligned alternative field is like a jungle — you have to pick and choose which plants to eat, some are less than helpful and some are magical. But what they have in common is an aversion to dangerous mind drugs and a respect for the integrity and basic goodness of the individual.
When someone is labeled with a disorder, bipolar or whatever, the individual with all their wonderful complexity is lost and the disorder is treated in a robotic way.
Thank you for speaking out.
