Make Money Selling your Zines
Okay so your zines are made, printed and folded. You’re ready to share them with the world, but not sure where to begin. Zine making is great way to express yourself, self-publish your art or writing, and to make like-minded friends. Making money off it is a bonus.
I was overwhelmed at first when I opened my shop, but I found a satisfying amount of success quickly. Here’s what I did.
1. Come up with your shop name and branding
Think about the vibe of your zines and find a name to match. I found more success having the word “zine” in my shop name — a simple name like Your Name’s Zine Press is good if you can’t decide. Try and find a name that’s available across social media so you can be consistent and easily findable across platforms.
Next you might design a logo. Canva makes it easy, even if you’re not great at design. But honestly, a funny little doodle done in Paint or even a selfie would be fine; the zine community is all about that at-home, imperfect look.
2. Make social media for your zines
Zines are ultimately a visual experience, so your best bet is Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest. Around half of my customers come from Instagram. Like with my shops, I find having the word “zine” in my username gets me more attention than posting from my regular accounts.
