INSIDER HANGOUT — VERBOTEN CLUB, NYC
The New York haunt we’d dress up for
If you’re down for some underground dance music in an impressive space, then Verboten is your ideal weekend post-11pm hangout. Like many cool clubs, it ripens as the night goes on, and might serve as the perfect end-venue from a string of bars and hangouts.
If you’re familiar with the name, Verboten have been haunting the New York dance scene with various events and parties for a couple of years now. With a good name and reputation already made, their Williamsburg permanent home will draw some serious crowds in the upcoming months, so we recommend getting ahead of the curve and enjoying their wares before queues are winding around the surrounding streets.
Boasting two rooms — the cavernous Control Room and the cosy soon-to-serve-food Cabaret Bar — it’s both an epic 10,000 square foot party palace, and an ideal location for renting out private spaces.
If you want to make the most out of this venue, we suggest heading down on a Friday night…it’s a great opportunity to test out the clever concept of 24 hour dressing. Is there an outfit that you can wear for both working and twerking? And, as the club closes at 5am, would it be appropriate for a post-party breakfast, without looking too ridiculous?
We’ve thought about it and decided the following elements make up the perfect 24 hour outfit:
- One-strap heeled sandals: the absolute perfect pair of shoes — they’re comfortable, office-appropriate and glamorous.
- Something loose and silky: if it’s not tight then it’s acceptable daywear, but silky = slinky, which works for the dancefloor too
- Something sheer: preferably a jacket for an element of sexy but demure cover-up
- A statement necklace: because it’s an effortless way to up the glamour
